Where to stay in Queenstown, Arrowtown & Wanaka

The widest choice of beds in Central Otago. Gibbston and the Wanaka wineries are close; Bannockburn and Bendigo are a longer drive over the Kawarau Gorge and the Lindis side.

1. Why stay here

Queenstown has the airport, restaurants and the most rooms. It works best for travellers who want the wine as one thread among several, and for cooler-climate Gibbston Pinot Noir close at hand.

2. Getting to the vineyards

Gibbston cellar doors are a short drive from Queenstown. Bannockburn is farther, so a tour or a designated driver helps. Check current road conditions in winter.

3. Season and booking

Summer and the ski season are both busy. Check what is open: some cellar doors keep shorter hours in winter and ask for a booking.
