Where to stay in Marlborough & the Sounds

Blenheim, Renwick, Picton and Havelock: the Wairau Valley cellar doors on one side, the Marlborough Sounds on the other, with the Kaikoura coast at the southern edge.

1. Base yourself in Blenheim or Renwick

Most Wairau Valley cellar doors sit within a short drive of these two towns, so a single base covers a long weekend of tastings without repacking.

2. Plan the driving

Cellar doors are spread across a flat valley and distances add up. Arrange a designated driver, a bike or a guided tour, and check each cellar door for its current opening days.

3. Book early in busy months

Summer, the March to April harvest and long weekends fill beds quickly, and Picton gets crowded around ferry arrivals. Reserve before you lock in tasting appointments.
